Vic: Vic govt to lay down economic action plan
The Victorian government will next week lay out its inaugural economic statement -
an action plan to boost investment and jobs in the state.
Treasurer JOHN BRUMBY says the plan aims to cut business costs, create jobs, and make
the state more competitive.
Mr BRUMBY warns that the strong Australian dollar is putting pressure on the manufacturing
and export sectors.
He says the plan will outline strategic directions for the state economy, including
investment in infrastructure.
The statement is also expected to reaffirm the government's support for the Port Phillip
Bay channel deepening project.
The business sector community has lobbied intensively for the project.
